BABILONIA
1808, the International Contemporary Arts Program of the Babilonia Wilner
Foundation, offers regularly changing exhibitions and interactions with
international and local artists. A dynamic interaction takes place between
art and art space when contemporary work from all over the world is shown
in one of the oldest houses in Berkeley, California. This house and BWF's
sister programs draw diverse audiences beyond the art sector neighborhood
residents and schoolchildren, Fourth Street shoppers, non-profit workers
and activists surrounding them in art they might otherwise never encounter
and benefitting artists by developing new audiences they might otherwise
not attract. Exhibitions at BABILONIA 1808 feature art which reflects experiences
and worldviews that can challenge the comfort zones of the mainstream without
losing a sense of humor. BABILONIA 1808 encourages people of all ages to
express themselves through visual arts and to use their creativity to shape
a more positive world. |
